3537 X Habibi Collective
In the summer of 2022 we were warmly welcomed by the 3537.org (Paris) during their third edition of the Exposition Collective Libre. Habibi Collective hosted a special program for the occasion: ‘Reframing Rhythms: à showcase of music shorts from the 1990s to present’.
We have selected a variety of shorts about music or musically-based featured in a screening. Our selection presented the works of female directors from all around the SWANA region, produced at different stages of their careers. The music clips and musicals are often perceived as less serious and politically engaging than narrative shorts. However, the creations selected bear witness to the importance of this type of works. Both by their accessibility (more 'mainstream') and by the power of their expression of political, social and societal topics. We have selected very recent works. Indeed, they also testify to the subjects that the region's female filmmakers want to address nowadays. A post-screening discussion with the directors explored these issues and developments in further depth.
Event co-curated with Bella Barkett.
